Hobi Alter, who created the extremely fast Hobi Catamarans, invited me to the races held near Tampa Bay one season. He hired me to photograph the affair, wanting especially photos using a long lens that compresses foreground closer to the background, making boats look closer together than they are. I used a 400-mm long lens for this shot made against a bright golden sunset. Since I like sailing Hobi Cats at night, I sandwiched the transparency with one I made of a full moon and re-photographed them together. This is the result. Except for removing dust specks on the final graphic, nothing else was done digitally to the image.
