At the Monterey, California docks this colorful fishing fleet in all its bright regalia and proud names line up with their sharp prows pointing out as they wait to move out before first light, working their way slowly into the deeper swells of Monterey Bay and the Pacific Ocean, icy cold water bathing depths of the abyss close to shore, underwater canyons of eerie beauty. Awaiting them offshore are the great schools of albacore and the myriad other sea treasures they return with. Nothing so much typifies this traditional way of life as much as these ageless fishing boats. I have given them the vibrant colors I felt spoke best for their vibrant life at sea, and the valiant men who sail them.
