title: Venice Sundown (see the full-size close-up below) I delighted in photographing the scrolled ironwork and vintage streetlamps of Venice. Sometimes they are festooned with pigeons that find them easy perching places. More often, however, I saw these antiques as radiating the beauty of a much earlier era in time. I saw their geometric beauty purposely counterpoised against the almost Arabic architecture of their backdrops. With that in mind I worked the images digitally, creating sunrise or sunset renderings that seemed to gain more visual impact as a pointillist painting. Once again, the poster-sized enlargement with its strong pastel gold and orange colors begins to make coherent sense when viewed so one sees and appreciates the individual dots of color that contribute to this effect.. |
