WEST SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS:
The Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine will again sell Pie Cones
this year in the Maine Building at the Eastern States Exposition
(The Big E). From September 13 to September 29, wild Maine blueberries
will be served with a creamy cheesecake filling in another Maine
specialty, the Pie Cone. This handheld pie with its distinctive,
crisp yet flaky crust is the invention of thrifty Mainers. A
supremely sensible group, folks from Down East value their environment
and also don't like waste. The Pie Cone was created so
that the busy shopper, fairgoer, even passengers on a tour bus
or in a car, could enjoy the pie experience without the bother
of throwaway paper plates and plastic forks. Filled much like
an ice cream cone, the Pie Cone is topped with whipped
cream and served with a single napkin. You can easily walk, talk,
and explore the Big E while savoring this unusual and tasty Maine
dessert. The Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine will also feature
two other delicious ways to enjoy wild Maine blueberries: blueberry
sundaes and blueberry muffins. The booth will be open 10 AM9
PM each day. |
