Compulsory schooling in Washington state is age 8.  Prior to that:

 

Math:    Basic arithmetic facts:  dominoes, go-fish, uno, cribbage, and base-10 exchange are all good games that make it fun and easy to memorize the facts.  We have used CalcuLadders, Mad Minute, and WorkSheetFactory.com for written drills.

 

Reading:  Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons followed by lots of easy-readers
